On Friday, November 1, 2019,  Alexis Guerrero wrote a blog post titled, U.S. National Government

This post was written very well, but it seems like a good start for a much broader argument. I think that Guerrero could have expanded more on the topic and explained in more detail what the “tampon tax” is. I believe that Guerrero should have gone into more depth on why she is opposed to the tampon tax.

With that said, I really like this issue proposed. I completely agree and think that taxes should not be put on feminine products.

This is Long Overdue

Currently, there are millions of people living in the United States who work demanding jobs that do not pay them enough. The federal minimum wage is not livable and should change to a higher/comfortable rate that is parallel to inflation.

According to the CPI Inflation Calculator, the buying power of a dollar ($1) today in 2019 is about 20 cents higher than the buying power of a dollar in 2009. A little over half of the states in America have a state minimum wage in place that does not follow the federal minimum wage rate of $7.25 and pays more; however, there are still a high number of states that do. The inflation rate keeps getting higher and higher, but the minimum wage rate has not budged in the last ten years and has failed to keep up with inflation. The last time the minimum wage was changed was in mid-2009, from $6.55 to $7.25 per hour, that is not a drastic difference. This pay rate means $290 a week, before tax, and $15,000 a year for full-time workers. That is not nearly enough for an individual or someone with a family to live off of every month, let alone every year. The average cost to live in an apartment can cost anywhere from $500 to $1,500 a month in the United States.

The federal government should raise the minimum wage rate to $15 and make sure that it stays parallel to the inflation rate because raising the wage would undoubtedly boost worker’s paychecks and bring them out of poverty. Besides, most Americans are in support of seeing the minimum wage increased.
